The History Of Basketball

The game of Basketball was Originated in 1891, by A Canadian man named James Naismith. James Naismith was a YMCA Training teacher at Springfield Massachusetts. But did he know that basketball was going to be something bigger.

It was a cold day at the YMCA and Naismith's boss asked him to make a game that can be played indoors. When Naismith was making the game he thought of his childhood game that he played, duck on a rock. The game would not be about strength it would be about but skill. He created the game that millions of people like, Basketball.r

In the first game of basketball there was a basket hung 10 feet above the ground and you shot with a soccer ball. In the first game there were 2 teams. On each team there would be nine players playing on the court. There would be 9 players on the court because he had 18 people in his class. In the first game there was one point scored in the whole entire game. There were 13 rules: some of the rules were a player can not run with the ball, a foul would be striking a player with their fist or running with the ball, the ball must be held by the hands and No shoulder holding, pushing, tripping or striking in any way of the opposite team. If you get one foul nothing happens if you get another foul you get disqualified in the next point.

Basketball has come a long way. Now we have backboards. Now we also have hoops not a basket. There are also more rules in the game. There were 13 but now there are like over 100 rules. Also there are plays before there were no plays you just ran up and down the court trying to score. There are more ways to score, like dunking.

Basketball is really popular, but you might not know the history behind it. So basketball has come a long way from what it used to be.
