An Unsung Hero
Have you ever heard of James Armistead Lafayette. He was born into salvery at 1748 December 10 in New Kent, Virginia. His owner's name is William Armistead. He was a very significant person in the Revolutionary War. Lafayette can be remembered for helping America fight for its freedom. His work as a spy on the British affected our life we live today. To make him a better worker, Lafayette’s owner taught him how to read and write. All slaves who fought in the Revolutionary War were promised freedom if American won the war. Lafayette then asked his owner if he could go help for freedom in America and his owner said he could. When he went to war he was a spy. A spy was good for him because he was educated by his owner and people would doubt him because he is a Black American. When he went to spy on the british Lafayette said he was a runaway slave.
